HOUSTON – A former psychiatric technician alleges she believes her age was a factor in her alleged wrongful termination from University of Texas Harris County Psychiatric Center.

Dawn Esther Washington filed a complaint on Dec. 21 in the Harris County District Court against University of Texas Harris County Psychiatric Center alleging race and age discrimination, retaliation and a hostile work environment.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff began her employment with the defendant as a psychiatric technician in October 2009. The suit states after a December 2016 incident involving a patient, the patient's nurse sent the plaintiff and others a letter of intent to impose disciplinary action and she was terminated on Dec. 22, 2016.

The plaintiff alleges she did not violate any policies regarding this patient and that she believes she was wrongfully terminated. The suit states she was 59 at the time of her termination and that employees younger than her were not terminated.

The plaintiff seeks back pay, front pay, compensatory and punitive damages, attorney's fees, costs and all other relief to which she is entitled. She is representing herself.
