HOUSTON – A seller of windows, doors, and siding for residences has been named in a former canvasser’s wrongful termination lawsuit, recent Harris County District Court records show.
Kamil Karriem filed the suit against Conservation Contacts of Texas, LLC on Jan. 14 in the Harris County 133rd District Court, accusing the business of firing him for his complaints about “inappropriate racial comments in the workplace.”
A man of African American descent, Karriem alleges that his manager, a white male, “often made racial jokes and used the ‘N’ word in front of (him) and other employees.”
According to court papers, the plaintiff brought the manager’s behavior to another superior to no avail. The business “then began treating Karriem worse,” the original petition says.
Conservation Contacts ultimately terminated the complainant for “having a bad attitude, poor driving, and poor sales,” to which the suit refutes as retaliation for opposing a discriminatory practice.
Consequently, Karriem seeks unspecified monetary damages and a jury trial.
He is represented by Nitin Sud of Sud Law, P.C. in Houston.
