HOUSTON – A Houston man alleges he was injured while working for a hotel in the city when an elevator he was using unexpectedly dropped at a high rate of speed.

Joshua Roberson filed a complaint on Jan. 10 in the Harris County District Court against RIDA Development Corp. and Otis Elevator Co. alleging negligence and premises liability.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Dec. 28, 2017, he was employed by Marriott Marquis Houston as an At Your Service runner and was delivering items ordered by a Marriott Hotel guest. He alleges he stepped into an elevator and after selecting the floor, the elevator dropped at a high rate of speed and when it came to an abrupt stop, he fractured his ankle and sustained a concussion.

The plaintiff holds RIDA Development Corp. and Otis Elevator Co. responsible because RIDA Development allegedly failed to warn of the faulty elevator and Otis failed to properly inspect, maintain and repair the elevator.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against defendants, with interest, costs and such other and further relief to which he may be justly entitled. He is represented by Anthony Malley III of Malley Law Firm PLLC in Beaumont.
