GALVESTON – A convenience store worker is suing his employers following an alleged armed robbery more than a year ago which resulted in him getting shot multiple times.

In a lawsuit filed against ANZ-C Store, doing business as Valero At 4203 E. Crosstimbers Rd., and proprietor Karimali Sabjali on Jan. 22 in the Galveston County Court at Law No. 1, Vicky Dias claims that a gunman demanded money from him just as he had locked the store doors in the early morning hours of July 23, 2017.

The gunman purportedly hid in the store until “all of the patrons had left.”

Dias recalls obeying the assailant only to be shot in the back, adding that he was shot six more times “from (an) extremely close range” after he fell to the ground.

The suspect left the business with the contents from the register and has not been apprehended to this day, according to the original petition.

Dias, who reportedly walks with a limp because of the subject incident, accuses the defendants of failing to provide adequate security despite the store’s location in “a neighborhood with a reputation for violent crime.”

Consequently, the plaintiff seeks unspecified monetary damages.

He is represented by the law firm McCarthy & Edwards PLLC in Houston.
