HOUSTON – A Harris County man says in a state district lawsuit that he was physically attacked at an Academy store at the beginning of the year.

LaMarcus Hurrington filed the suit against the locally based sporting goods discount store chain on Feb. 26 in the Harris County 151st District Court in response to the purported New Year’s Day assault at 2320 Hwy. 6 in Houston.

According to Hurrington, he and his 11-year-old son were at the business to exchange a Christmas gift purchased for the boy when an employee verbally accosted him.

When the plaintiff asked why the worker spoke to him in such a manner, the suit says, the former was “forcefully” removed out of the building.

The unidentified worker’s colleagues reportedly “joined in to berate, belittle, and humiliate” Hurrington “while his young child watched in horror.”

A “helpless” Hurrington was forced to seek the aid of law enforcement, the original petition says.

Consequently, the complainant seeks unspecified monetary damages.

He is represented by Audia Jones of Houston.
