Seaman alleges he lost ear when hose connection struck his head

HOUSTON —A seaman is suing a Houston company, alleging a physical deformity was due to an incident at work.

Shannon Nery filed a complaint March 1 in Harris County District Court against Rowan Companies Inc., alleging negligence and failure to maintain equipment.

According to the complaint, on Dec. 22, 2018, Nery was working on the drill ship Resolute 202 owned by Rowan. The suit says Nery was struck by a hose connection that hit multiple times, causing injuries to his head and causing his ear to detach from his head.

Nery seeks a jury trial, damages of more than $1 million, attorney fees and court costs. He is represented by attorneys Ryan H. Zehl, Matt L. Martin and Zachary P. McFarlane of Zehl & Associates in Houston.
