Family blames school bus operators for relative's death

Lawsuits

TEXARKANA — A family is suing a school services company alleging the death of a loved one was due to the negligence of a school bus driver.

Anterius Beard Sr., individually and as representative of the wrongful death beneficiaries of Angelica Beard, deceased and as next friend of minor children T.B. No. 1 and T.B. No. 2 filed a complaint March 22 in the Texarkana Division of the Eastern District of Texas against Durham School Services LP, alleging negligence and wrongful death.

The suit says Angelica Beard was a volunteer assistant track coach at Mount Pleasant High School. On March 23, 2017, she was operating a 2004 Pontiac Grand Am SE1 traveling southbound on U.S. Highway 271 behind a school bus transporting the boys track team.

In the opposite direction, Bradley Ray Farmer was operating a Rooney Trucking Inc tractor-trailer. The suit says he attempted to correct his path after he drove off center but his vehicle struck the school bus. Farmer was ejected from the vehicle, the suit says, and the tractor-trailer veered off path into the northbound lane and oncoming traffic and collided with Beard's vehicle.

The suit states Beard was airlifted to a Tyler hospital but she died the following day. The suit alleges the bus driver's negligence in failing to avoid the tractor-trailer led to Beard's death.
