HOUSTON – Sued almost two months ago after one of its drivers allegedly assaulted a female passenger, Uber Technologies, Inc. recently pushed back against the rider’s lawsuit.
The immensely popular rideshare company formally answered the allegations brought by Adrienne Solomon, of Harris County, on Mar. 15.
As previously reported in The Southeast Texas Record, the plaintiff claims that a motorist named Janice Marie Kinmon picked her and her mother up on Dec. 2, 2018 only to demand the pair exit the vehicle during the ride.
Kinmon, a co-defendant in the litigation, reportedly “went to the passenger door and attempted to physically force Adrienne (Solomon) and Evelyn (Cohen) out of the car.” According to Solomon, the driver struck her in the neck and left her and her mother on the side of the street.
Uber’s original answer states that it bears no responsibility for the subject event since Kinmon is an independent contractor and not an employee.
Court records show that Kinmon has not responded to Solomon’s suit.
The law firm Wilson Elser Moskowitz Edelman & Dicker, L.L.P. in Houston is representing Uber.
