HOUSTON — A Porter woman is suing a debt collection agency, alleging harassment.

Jo Lynn Smith filed a complaint April 15 in the Houston Division of the Southern District of Texas against Credit Corp Solutions Inc., alleging violations of the Federal Debt Collection Practices Act and the Texas Debt Collection Act.

According to the complaint, Smith incurred a financial obligation, and Credit Corp began trying to collect the debt. The suit says the defendant began contacting Smith in December 2018, and then began calling her at work seeking to collect.

The plaintiff says she informed Credit Corp that she was not allowed to take personal calls at work but the defendant continued to call. The defendant allegedly then threatened to sue the plaintiff if the debt was not paid off.

Smith seeks trial by jury, statutory damages of $1,000, costs of litigation and attorney fees, actual damages and all other just relief. She is represented by attorney Jody B. Burton of Lemberg Law LLC in Wilton, Connecticut.
