TYLER — A consumer is suing a credit reporting company, alleging unfair practices in relation to his credit score.

Robert Williams filed a complaint April 16 in the Tyler Division of the Eastern District of Texas against Transfinancial Companies Inc. and Transunion Corp., alleging violation of the Fair Credit Reporting Act and the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, harassment or abuse, and false or misleading representation.

Accorrding to the complaint, Williams was contacted by Transfinancial in an attempt to collect an alleged debt. The suit states the defendant was voluntarily reporting to the credit reporting agencies in connection with the collection of the alleged debt.

Williams says his representative sent a dispute letter to the defendant on April 20, 2018. On July 20, 2018, the suit alleges, Williams' credit file was updated but it did not contain the updated account information.

The plaintiff alleges he has been subjected to unfair treatment due to the defendants' practices and that the defendants' failure to update his credit has resulted in damages to his financial security.

Williams seeks trial by jury, statutory damages, court costs, attorney fees and all just and proper relief. He is represented by attorneys Gregory S. Motil, Joel S. Halvorsen and Gregory M Klote of Halvorsen Klote in St. Louis.
