BEAUMONT – A mom seeking up to $1 million in damages is claiming her minor child was injured at a birthday party.

Angela Medrano filed suit against Maria Salazar and Roland Shuler on April 8 in Jefferson County District Court.

According to the lawsuit, the child was at the defendants’ Beaumont property for a birthday party on Jan. 20. The child was looking inside a three-tier fountain when it collapsed.

“(The child) was struck directly … on the head with such force as to immediately fracture (his or her) skull,” the suit states.

Medrano claims the defendant had a duty to warn her about the fountain.

She is suing for past and future medical expenses, mental anguish, impairment, disfigurement and loss of earning capacity.

The Daspit Law Firm in Houston represents her.

Judge Baylor Wortham, 136th District Court, is presiding over the case.

Case No. D-203649
