Employee accuses Walmart of unfair discharge

Wrongful term 10

HOUSTON — A Harris County woman is suing Walmart, alleging she was unfairly discharged from her position due to her race and age.

Sharon Benoit filed a complaint April 20 in Harris County District Court against Walmart (Store No. 5287), alleging violation of the Texas Commission on Human Rights Act.

According to the complaint, Benoit, a 63-year-old black woman, was discharged by Walmart for pretextual reasons Oct. 19, 2017 for allegedly collecting merchandise that had been paid for previously and placing it in a waiting area. The plaintiff alleges her termination as an assistant manage was illegal and has caused her to suffer unduly.

Benoit seeks trial by jury, between $200,000 and $1 million, attorney fees, court costs and all other just relief. She is represented by attorney Laurence Watts of Watts & Company Lawyers Ltd. in Missouri City.
