MARSHALL — An Upshur County woman is suing a medical facility, alleging she was terminated due to her age and gender.

Shelly Taylor filed a complaint May 20 in the Marshall Division for the Eastern District of Texas against CHSPSC LLC, doing business as Community Health Systems-Longview Regional Medical Center, alleging age and gender discrimination and violation of the Family and Medical Leave Act.

According to the complaint, Taylor is a 54-year-old woman who worked for Longview Regional for 17 years and was named the hosptial's outstanding director in 2016.. The suit states Taylor was fired Jan. 8, 2018, for reasons she believes were associated with her age and gender because she was replaced by a much younger woman.

The plaintiff alleges she had been caring for her quadriplegic son, using her FMLA leave to do so. The plaintiff, upon returning to work, was terminated by the defendant, the suit says.

Taylor seeks trial by jury, damages within jurisdictional limits, punitive or liquidated damages, attorney fees, interest, court costs and all other just relief. She is represented by attorney Gregory Porter of Dobbs & Porter PLLC in Tyler.
