Galley hand seeks $3 million from Hornbeck Offshore Services over fall on stairs

GALVESTON – A Louisiana man is suing the owner of a vessel he was working aboard after he slipped and fell on the stairs.

Carlos Knox filed a complaint on in the Galveston Division of the Southern District of Texas against Hornbeck Offshore Services LLC alleging unseaworthiness, violation of the Jones Act and negligence.

The plaintiff alleges was working in the course of his employment on Aug. 10, 2018, when he slipped on stairs on the vessel he was aboard and suffered injuries to his head and back. The suit states the plaintiff was employed by Encore Catering as a galley hand aboard the defendant's ship.

The plaintiff alleges the defendant failed to provide a reasonably safe place to work.

The plaintiff is seeking relief up to $3 million, trial by jury and other relief deemed fit. The plaintiff is represented by Eric J. Rhine of Spagnoletti Law Firm in Houston.
