SHERMAN — A pharmacy technician is suing a medical center, alleging her supervisor made sexual advances toward her and then retaliated when the advances were not reciprocated.

Teresa R. McKinney of Pottsboro filed a complaint June 10 in the Sherman Division of the Eastern District of Texas against UHS of Texoma Inc., doing business as Texoma Medical Center, alleging retaliation.

According to the complaint, McKinney began working for Texoma Medical Center on Aug. 1, 2016. The plaintiff says she was a single mother and defendant Josiah Schomer was a married man. The plaintiff alleges she was approached by Schomer who began to ask her questions about having sex outside of marriage. The plaintiff said she made clear she was not interested in having sex with Schomer.

The suit alleges Schomer became McKinney's direct supervisor in September 2016 and would regularly make her uncomfortable and continued to make sexual advances. Schomer allegedly became angry with the plaintiff who fended off his advances and then began to retaliate. The plaintiff said she reported his misconduct to human resources after Schomer marked the plaintiff for an additional performance review when she did not need one.

Schomer allegedly found out that McKinney had reported him to HR and began to treat her poorly, even recommending that she be terminated March 28, 2017. The plaintiff says she sought help from HR but the representative failed to take the plaintiff's concerns seriously. The plaintiff has been forced to file a EEOC charge of discrimination against Texoma Medical Center and says she has suffered harm to professional reputation and personal distress.

McKinney seeks trial by jury, court costs, interest and all other just relief. She is represented by attorneys Christine A.Hopkins and Carmen Artaza of Tremain Artaza PLC in Dallas.
