HOUSTON — A Houston woman is suing a health care corporation, alleging she and others were charged a balance that they were not expecting, a breach of their insurance coverage.

Sandeep Kaur, individually and on behalf of all others similarly situated, filed a class action complaint July 9 in the Houston Division of the Southern District of Texas against Envision Healthcare Corporation, Emcare Inc. and Emcare IAH Emergency Physicians PLLC, alleging breach of implied contract

According to the complaint, Kaur was driven by an ambulance to the emergency room at Cypress Fairbanks Medical Center Hospital on Nov. 29, 2016, after sustaining a head injury.

The plaintiff said she provided her insurance information to the ambulance and expected that her medical insurance would limit her emergency room copay to $100. The plaintiff, however, alleges she received a bill for $2,844.97 from the defendant and there is still a dispute regarding the balance owed.

Kaur seeks trial by jury, monetary relief, attorney fees and all other just relief. She is represented by attorneys Jeffrey W. Chamber of Wolf Popper LLP in Houston and by Chet Waldman and Elissa Hachmeister of Wolf Popper in New York.
