HOUSTON — A New York City man is suing a Houston seafood restaurant, alleging the defendant refused to hire him on the basis of gender.

Elvyn Guerrero of the Bronx filed a complaint Aug.16 in the Houston Division of the Southern District of Texas against Mambo Seafood, alleging sex discrimination.

According to the complaint, Guerrero went to look for work at three different Mambo Seafood locations in Houston where there were signs saying "Now Hiring." The plaintiff said he was shocked to learn that the defendant refused to hire men as servers and would not consider offering him employment. The plaintiff was told that his only options for employment were to work in the kitchen or in cleaning.

Guerrero seeks trial by jury, punitive damages, attorney fees, court costs and all just relief. He is represented by attorney Katrina Patrick of Bellaire.
