Maritime worker alleges McDermott International negligence caused fall on faulty stairwell

HOUSTON — A Louisiana maritime worker is suing his employer and a vessel owner, alleging he was injured on the faulty stairwell of an offshore barge.

Arthur Lawrence Hebert Jr., filed a complaint Aug. 19 in Harris County District Court against McDermott International Inc., J. Ray McDermott SA, J. Ray McDermott Inc., and McDermott Inc., alleging negligence and unseaworthiness.

According to the complaint, Hebert was employed as a crane operator on a heavy lift derrick barge Aug. 20, 2018. The suit alleges Hebert fell on an interior stairwell, resulting in injuries to the plaintiff's back, shoulder and arm and leading to a significant loss in wages.

The plaintiff alleges the defendants was negligent in creating the dangerous conditions that led to his injuries.

Hebert seeks more than $1 million in damages and all appropriate relief. He is represented by attorneys Michael Patrick Doyle, Patrick M. Dennis of Jeffrey Avery of Doyle LLP in Houston, and by Charles C. Bourque of St. Martin & Bourque, Houma, Louisiana.
