Baker gets hand caught in mixer, sues for $200K

BEAUMONT – Ana’s Mexican Bakery has been hit with a lawsuit alleging an employee caught her hand in an industrial mixer nearly two years ago.

Seeking up to $200,000 in damages, Martha Portillo-Mendoza filed the suit Aug. 13 in Jefferson County District Court.

According to the lawsuit, on Oct. 3, 2017, Portillo-Mendoza was an employee of the defendant and suffered disabling injuries when she got her hand caught in an industrial sized mixer.

She is alleging the defendant negligently failed to provide a safe workplace, proper safety equipment and adequate training and supervision.

Portillo-Mendoza is suing for he medical expenses, pain, mental anguish and impairment.

Attorney Dru Montgomery of The Heartfield Law Firm in Beaumont represents her.

Judge Justin Sanderson, 60th District Court, has been assigned to the case.
