SHERMAN — A Haslet man is suing a debt collection agency alleging that he was harassed.

James A. Thompkins filed a complaint Aug. 29 in the Sherman Division of the Eastern District of Texas against Vericore LLC, alleging violation of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act.

According to the complaint, Thompkins was the owner of a cellphone, and in March he began to receive phone calls from Vericore regarding an alleged breeding bill. The suit alleges the defendant would call the plaintiff repeatedly even after Thompkins requested that Vericore cease.

The plaintiff says the defendant's actions have caused him distress.

Thompkins seeks up to $500 for each violation in statutory damages and $1,500 in treble damages for each violation, trial by jury and all other just and proper relief. He is represented by attorneys Joseph S. Davidson and Mohammed O. Badwan of Sulaiman Law Group LLC in Lombard, Illinois.
