HOUSTON —An oilfield employee is suing energy companies, alleging he was burned at work.

George Quintanilla Jr. of Hidalgo County filed a complaint Aug. 26 in Harris County District Court against BHP Billiton Petroleum (TXLA Operating) Company, Schlumberger Technology Corporation and Gilbert Rodriguez Jr., alleging negligence and liability.

According to the complaint, Quintanilla was working at an oilfield in Yorktown controlled by BHP on Feb. 22, 2018. The plaintiff alleges while working on a blowout preventer he was forced to stand in ankle-high liquid that was filled with toxic chemicals.

The plaintiff says he suffered burns to his feet and lower body and was required to undergo surgery and skin grafts due to the negligence of the defendants.

Quintanilla seeks damages of more than $1 million, trial by jury, attorney fees, court costs, interest and all other just relief. He is represented by attorneys Anthony G. Buzbee and Crystal Del Toro of The Buzbee Law Firm in Houston.
