GALVESTON — A Gregg County couple is suing the owners of a spa massage operation, alleging a negligent employee allowed the husband to be burned by a stone.

James Reis and Lindsey Reis filed a complaint Sept. 16 in Galveston County District Court against Eighteen Seventy Strand Corp. alleging negligence, liability and infliction of bodily injury.

According to the complaint, James and Lindsey Reis were at The Hotel Galvez Spa in Galveston on July 8, 2018 to get massages. The suit states James Reis laid down to get a hot stone massage from a spa employee who placed a hot stone on his midback. The plaintiff, with his wife present, says he complained about the temperature of the hot stone but the employee assured him it was all right. Reis alleges he ended up being burned by the stone and that the pain continues despite medication and treatment.

The Reises seek monetary relief between $200,000 and $1 million, trial by jury, attorney fees, court costs and all other just relief. They are represented by Jose Sanchez Law Firm PC in Longview, and PayneMitchell Law Group in Dallas.
