HOUSTON — A Huntsville man who slipped and fell in a Walgreens parking lot on handicap signage that was allegedly painted with a product that became slippery when wet is suing the drug store chain for negligence.
Ikeena Ekeada filed a complaint on Oct. 29 in the Houston Division of the Southern District of Texas against Walgreens Pharmacy Services Midwest, LLC. Ekeada's lawsuit claims that he was walking through the Walgreens parking lot on April 17, 2019 when he lost his footing and slipped and fell on the blue and white handicap signage. He suffered injuries to his lower back and cartilage damage that required corrective surgery.
"The blue and white paint becomes very slippery when wet, a condition that arose after said blue and white paint reacted with moisture, which in this instance occurred as a result of the night air," Ekeada alleges in the complaint.
Ekeada also claims that when the store's night manager and others came to his aid, the manager told him that other patrons had slipped and fell on the same handicap sign.
Ekeada seeks monetary relief and all other just relief. He is represented by Dennis Spurling of the Dennis Spurling Law Firm PLLC in Houston.
