HOUSTON – A Galveston County woman has filed a suit against Uber and one its drivers alleging she was sexually assaulted.
Marissa Hicks filed a complaint Dec. 15 in the Harris County District Court against Uber Technologies Inc., doing business as Uber, and David Lane alleging negligence, sexual assault and other counts.
According to Hicks' complaint, she and a male friend requested an Uber ride on Jan. 5, 2018, after a night of drinking. She alleges when her friend exited the Uber vehicle to pick up some fast food that Lane, the driver, drove off with her in vehicle. She claims Lane pulled into an abandoned parking lot and made nonconsensual contact and assaulted her. Once Lane released her, she reunited with her friend and contacted the Houston Police Department the next day to report the assault, the suit states.
Hick alleges Uber failed to properly hire and train its drivers.
Hicks seeks damages, a trial by jury, interest and all other just relief. She is represented by Michelle Simpson Tuegel of The Simpson Tuegel Law Firm PPLC in Dallas and Lauren Lewis of The Simpson Tuegel Law Firm PPLC in Beaumont.
