Houston man claims he suffered second degree burns when French press coffee maker exploded

HOUSTON — A Houston man has filed a pro se complaint against the manufacturer and seller of a French press coffee maker after he suffered burns when the product allegedly exploded.  

Philip De Paula filed a pro se complaint Jan. 21 in the Harris County District Court against Bodum USA and TJX Companies alleging strict liability, breach of implied warranty of merchantability. 

According to the suit, De Paula purchased a Bodum Chambord French press style coffee maker from defendant TJX's Marshalls store in Houston on Dec. 15, 2017.  He alleges that on Jan. 21, 2018 while making coffee with the coffee maker, it exploded and causing him to suffer second degree burns. 

De Paula seeks monetary relief in excess of $50,000, trial by jury, interest and all other just relief.
