HOUSTON — A former King Property Management (KPM) employee claims she was denied accommodations for her PTSD and fired for filing a claim with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC).

Doreen Yates filed a complaint Jan. 30 in the Harris County District Court against LiLep LLC doing business as KPM alleging disability discrimination.

Yates began working for KPM as an account/bookkeeper on Feb. 12, 2018. Prior to her hiring, she informed KPM that she suffered from PTSD and could not work past 4 p.m. because rush-hour traffic triggered her anxiety and panic attacks. In September of 2018, after needing to make up her work time due to therapy sessions, Yates alleges that KPM would no longer allow her to arrive at work early and leave before 4 p.m., changed her hours and eventually fired her on Nov. 13, 2018 in retaliation for filing a complaint with the EEOC.

Yates seeks monetary relief between $100,000 and $200,000, trial by jury, interest and all other just relief. She is represented by Mark Lazarz and Taneska Jones of Shellist Lazarz Slobin LLP in Houston.
