SAN ANTONIO — Sanchez Oil & Gas is facing a class action by oilfield workers claiming the company violated federal law by not paying them for overtime work.

James Hutchins filed a complaint individually and on behalf of all other similarly situated Feb. 18 in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas San Antonio Division against Sanchez Oil & Gas Corporation alleging violation of the Fair Labor Standards Act.

Hutchins began working as an oilfield worker for Sanchez in March of 2017. He alleges that he was usually scheduled to work 12 to 14 hours shifts seven days a week and was often on call but was not paid overtime. Hutchins claims that instead, he and other oilfield workers were paid a day rate and classified as independent contractors.

Hutchins and the class seek monetary relief, trial by jury, interest and all other appropriate relief. They are represented by Michael Josephson, and Andrew Dunlap of Josephson & Dunlap in Houston and Richard Burch of Bruckner Burch PLLC in Houston.
