DALLAS — A former Ahern Rental employee is alleging the company systematically eliminated all of its older employees.

Eugene Campbell filed a complaint Feb. 25 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas against Ahern Rentals Inc., alleging violation of the Age Discrimination In Employment Act.

Campbell began working for Ahern in 2007. Campbell, who was 63 years old at the time, alleges that on March 29, 2019 he was told he was being laid off due to the company's restructuring. He claims most of the individuals who were laid off at the same time were over age 60 and those who were kept were the "youngest and least experienced" employees. Campbell also alleges that a supervisor told the older employees on several occasions that he could "hire replacements at half your age and half your pay" and that Ahern's owner said he wanted to "get rid of all of the old farts, n**** and Mexicans."

Campbell seeks monetary relief, trial by jury, interest and all other just relief. He is represented by Robert Wiley of Rob Wiley PC in Dallas.
