HARRIS COUNTY — A man claims a residential contractor he paid more than $30,000 upfront disappeared with his money without starting the job.

John Blackmon filed a complaint March 9 in the Harris County District Court against Alfredo Pena alleging breach of contract, fraud and violation of the Texas Theft Liability Act.

Blackmon hired Pena, a residential contractor, in November 2019 to build an enclosed patio at his Harris County home. He alleges that after paying Pena $31,666 upfront, he disappeared and never began the construction project. Blackmon claims Pena has ignored his demands to return the money.

Blackmon seeks monetary relief, trial by jury, interest and all other just relief. He is represented by Shannon Long and Jessica Hughes of Lang & Associates PLLC in Houston.
