LUFKIN — A man is suing the Alabama-Coushatta Tribe of Texas after the tribe claims the personal injury he suffered at their casino is not under tribe law.

Burrel Jones filed a complaint April 9 in the Lufkin Division of the Eastern District of Texas against the Alabama-Coushatta Tribe of Texas and Naskila Gaming alleging violation of the Texas Gaming Laws and Restoration Act, premises liability and other claims.

Jones was at the Alabama-Coushatta Tribe's casino in Oct. 13, 2019. He alleges that while on a staircase leading to the ground level, he lost his footing and fell down the staircase. Jones lost consciousness and suffered injuries to his shoulder, arm, wrist and other parts of his body and was hospitalized for nearly a week. He claims the staircases structure was unsafe with the Tribe claiming tort remedy does not exist for his claim under  the tribe's laws.

Jones seeks monetary relief, trial by jury, interest and all other just relief. He is represented by Attorney Rashon Murrill in Houston.

Lufkin Division of the Eastern District of Texas case number 9:20-CV-00063.
