HOUSTON —  A former XTO Energy and Exxon worker who is deaf in one ear claims he faced retaliation due to his accommodation requirements.

Kyle Reuter filed a complaint April 24 in the Houston Division of the Southern District of Texas against XTO Energy Inc., and Exxon Mobil Corporation alleging violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Reuter began working for XTO, which became a subsidiary of Exxon in 2010,  as an association landman on January 23, 2012. Reuter suffered deafness in his right ear due to a brain injury he received in 2007 and wore noise-cancelling headphones and closed his office door to block out office noise due to his disability. He alleges that he faced retaliation for his accommodations including poor performance reviews, denied promotions and eventually was terminated.

Reuter seeks monetary relief, trial by jury, interest and all other just relief. He is represented by Terrence Robinson and Monica Nunez-Garza of TB The Robinson Law Group PLLC in Houston.
