HOUSTON — A former U.S. Secret Service special agent who is of Arab/Middle Eastern decent claims he faced discrimination while part of Shell Oil's corporate security team and that he was denied a regional security manager position, despite his extensive experience, due to his national origin.

Walied Shater filed a complaint April 24 in the Houston Division of the Southern District of Texas against Shell Oil Company alleging violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. He alleges that Shell's corporate security department has a pattern of race and national origin discrimination and that Shell's head of corporate security at the time, favored only British ex-government workers with white British persons making up 75% of the positions in the department.

Shater seeks monetary relief, trial by jury and all other just relief. He is represented by Mark Oberti of Oberti Sullivan LLP in Houston.
