HOUSTON — A worker who was electrocuted when he cut into an unmarked power line at a job site is alleging the negligence of CenterPoint Energy.

Jose Melendez filed a complaint May 13 in Harris County District Court against CenterPoint Energy Inc., CenterPoint Houston Electric, United Locating Services of Texas LLC and others, alleging negligence.

Melendez was working on a plumbing job for his employer, JB Excavations, at a site in Channelview on May 15, 2018. He alleges that prior to his working at the site, CenterPoint had been contacted to mark any underground power lines. Melendez claims that as he was performing his work, he cut into a power line that was not marked, which caused an explosion and his electrocution.

Melendez seeks monetary relief between $100,000 and $200,000, interest and all other just relief. He is represented by Allen King of Crim & Villalpando PC in Houston.
