WASHINGTON — Today the U.S. Supreme Court ruled against President Trump’s attempt to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has been leading the fight against former President Obama's DACA program for years and says the high court's ruling will not stop the fight.
“We are disappointed with today’s SCOTUS decision, but it does not resolve the underlying issue that President Obama’s original executive order exceeded his constitutional authority," Paxton said. "We look forward to continuing litigating that issue in our case now pending in the Southern District of Texas.”
Other groups, such as the Detention Watch Network, a coalition of organizations and individuals challenging the nation's immigration detention and deportation system, are praising the ruling.
“Detention Watch Network applauds today’s Supreme Court decision, said Silky Shah, executive director of DWN. "With today’s ruling, nearly 700,000 young people will not be subjected to aggressive raids, deadly detention centers, and life-altering deportations that already affect thousands of immigrants not benefiting from the program. Loved ones, community members, and co-workers will be able to stay in the U.S., because home is here."
