HOUSTON – Balch & Bingham’s Houston office continues to expand with the addition of an experienced Creditors Rights & Bankruptcy team comprised of  Lloyd A. Lim, partner, and Rachel Thompson Kubanda, associate.

“I am pleased to welcome both Lloyd and Rachel to Balch’s Houston office,” said Philip Dunlap, Houston office managing partner. “Their arrival is an exciting boost to our continued growth and will add considerable value for our clients.”

For decades, attorneys in Balch’s  Creditors Rights & Bankruptcy Practice have assisted clients in navigating their way through troubled economic times. This assistance includes structuring a transaction at the front end to minimize the impact of future financial difficulties, restructuring an existing loan to better address the current situation, facilitating an out-of-court resolution before the first pleading is ever filed, or resorting to exercising a client’s rights in or out of court.

Recognized since 2012 as a Texas Super Lawyers Rising Star, Lloyd has significant experience across a broad range of financial restructurings and bankruptcy proceedings, as well as, bankruptcy related litigation. Lloyd’s practice focuses on representing lenders and lender groups, trade creditors, bondholders, indenture trustees, asset purchases, landlords and other strategic parties in connection with out of court workouts, chapter 11 proceedings, DIP and exit financings, Section 363 sales and Article 9 foreclosures. Lloyd’s residence in the extremely active Houston bankruptcy market has allowed him to acquire significant experience and expertise in large and complex chapter 11 proceedings involving the energy, healthcare, and retail industries.

“Balch & Bingham is growing steadily in Texas,” said Lloyd Lim. “I look forward to helping the firm continue to grow its presence and to expanding the firm’s bankruptcy, restructuring and creditors’ rights capabilities.  Being at the firm allows me to more fully serve our growing client needs as we continue to see the number of bankruptcy cases rise due to the COVID-19 epidemic and the continued deterioration of market conditions.” Lloyd received his J.D. from Southern Methodist University, Dedman School of Law, and his B.A. from Texas Tech University.

Rachel focuses on corporate reorganizations and restructurings, creditors’ rights and trustee representation. She received her J.D. from South Texas College of Law and B.S. from John Carroll University. During her time at South Texas College of Law, Rachel served on Law Review as the Articles Editor and the Assistant Editor in Chief & Managing Editor. Rachel is recognized as a Texas Super Lawyers Rising Star and served as a former intern for the Honorable Jeff Bohm of the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas. She is an active member of the Houston Association of Young Bankruptcy Lawyers and the Association of Women Attorneys.

Balch & Bingham’s Houston office, which opened in January 2020, includes attorneys with significant experience in domestic and international oil and gas and energy transactions, mergers and acquisitions, regulatory and corporate compliance, securities transactions, creditors rights and bankruptcy and real estate.
