Jones Day issued the following announcement on Aug. 25.
Jim Reeder, a partner in Jones Day's Business & Tort Litigation Practice resident in the Houston Office, has become the Chair of the American Bar Association's Section of Litigation for the 2020-2021 bar year.
In his role as Chair, Mr. Reeder's initiatives will surround the theme of respect: respect for the profession, respect for the judiciary, respect for each other and respect for ourselves, and also reflect the Section's leadership in developing innovations and changes in access to justice necessitated by the current health pandemic as well as the pandemic of systemic and structural racism. To that end, programming, publications, and special events this year will be focused on promoting judicial independence and the rule of law, preserving fair and impartial courts, responding to unjust criticism of the judiciary and the media, personal wellness during the time of pandemic, and seeking new paths to fair access to justice and racial and social equality at this critical time. The Section will also continue its commitment to areas including children's rights advocacy, the judicial intern opportunity program, and special projects such as work to assist unaccompanied minors with immigration issues, pro bono efforts for military families, and the death penalty representation project.
Mr. Reeder is an accomplished trial lawyer who focuses on complex commercial litigation and antitrust. He represents clients across multiple industry sectors, including chemicals, health care, commercial aviation, energy, and entertainment. A former investment banker, he combines advocacy skills with an understanding of complex financial and economic issues. Mr. Reeder has tried cases involving claims of price-fixing, group boycott, exclusive dealing, tying, monopolization, discriminatory pricing, and conspiracy. He also has handled matters and tried cases involving claims of fraud, negligent misrepresentation, RICO, breach of fiduciary duty, deceptive trade practices, and violations of federal and state securities laws.
The mission of the Section of Litigation is to provide litigators of all practice areas the resources needed to become successful and experienced advocates. Legal professionals from all areas of practice join the ABA Section of Litigation for access to the latest news, information, and thinking on legal strategy. The Section is also actively leading efforts to protect equal and meaningful access to justice through the Section's special Good Works projects and initiatives.
