HOUSTON — A woman claims she slipped and fell on her back at the Galleria mall food court due to a spill on the floor.

Teresa Quinteros filed a complaint Nov. 6 in the Harris County District Court against Simon Property Group LP and Service Management Systems Inc., doing business as SMSI Inc., alleging negligence.

According to her complaint, Quinteros was at the Galleria in Houston on July 6, 2019. She alleges that while she was walking through the food court she slipped on a "clear liquid substance" that was spilled on the floor.

Quinteros claims an employee was mopping an area of the floor about 25 feet away from where she allegedly slipped and that a "wet floor" sign was placed "immediately" in the employee's proximity and not near the area where the alleged liquid had spilled.

Quinteros claims she fell on her back and suffered "significant injuries." She alleges she could not have "reasonably been expected to discover" the alleged spill "so far away" from the mopping employee. She also alleges Simon failed to properly train its employees in proper procedures and protocols and in how to eliminate the dangerous condition.

Quinteros seeks monetary relief, interest and all other just relief. She is represented by Jesus Garcia, Jr., and Moises Morales, III of Kherkher Garcia LLP in Houston.
