HOUSTON — A man is suing the contractors who constructed and maintained the stairwell at his employer's plant in Deer Park after the handrail broke and caused him to fall and suffer serious injuries.

Albert Gonzales filed a complaint March 2 in Harris County District Court against S&B Engineers and Constructors Management LLC.

Gonzales alleges in his complaint that while working for Lubrizol Corporation at its plant in Deer Park on May 31, 2020, he was walking down the stairwell that was designed, installed and maintained by the defendants, when the handrail broke and caused him to fall.

Gonzales alleges he suffered "serious" injuries that included dislocating his hip and breaking his femur which caused him to require surgery.

He claims S&B failed to put handrails or "non-skid material" on the stairwell and failed to "properly" construct and maintain the steps which were left "in a state of disrepair."

Gonzales seeks montetary relief of more than $1 million, interest, trial by jury and all other just relief. He is represented by M. Paul Skrabanek of Pierce Skrabanek PLLC in Houston.
