HOUSTON — A woman is suing Harris County after she was injured on a broken chair at the Harris County Courthouse in Houston.

Louvenia Johnson filed a complaint April 5 in Harris County District Court against Harris County Texas alleging negligence and premises liability.

Johnson was at the Harris County Criminal Justice Center in Houston on April 17, 2019, according to her complaint. She alleges she was sitting in a metal chair in the hallway outside of a court when the chair "went back" and hit a wall.

Johnson claims she suffered "significant physical and debilitating" injuries as a result of the defective chair and that the defendant failed to check the assembled chairs which posed an "unreasonably dangerous condition."

In addition, Johnson claims Harris County was negligent for not "adequately" maintaining its premises and failing to properly supervise and train its employees on proper inspection of the premises. She also alleges the defendants failed to warn of the dangerous condition or timely remove or fix the chair.

Johnson seeks monetary relief, of $250,000 or less, interest, trial by jury and all other just relief. She is represented by Richard Nava of The Nava Law Group PC in Bellaire.
