HOUSTON — A Pyburn's Food Market customer claims he was attacked by an employee with a boxcutter who slashed him across the throat while shopping at one of its Houston stores.
Joseph Brown filed a complaint April 24 in Harris County District Court against Bob and NHI Corporation, Bob & NHI Corp doing business as Pyburn's Food Market and Jamal Anthony Brooks alleging liability and negligence.
Brown alleges in his complaint that he was shopping at Pyburn's Food Market on Alemda Road in Houston on April 26, 2019. He claims that Brooks, a Pyburn's employee, attacked him and slashed him across his throat with a boxcutter and caused him to suffer "serious bodily injury."
Brown alleges that he "bled profusely" and that the defendants failed to render him medical aid and that Pyburn negligently hired Brooks, who had a prior second-degree felony conviction that involved aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Brown also alleges he has had to undergo "extensive medical and psychological treatment" as a result of the attack.
Brown seeks monetary relief of more than $1 million, interest, trial by jury and all other just relief.
He is represented by Tommy Servos of The Servos Law Firm PLLC in Houston.
