HOUSTON — A woman is claiming she slipped and fell backwards on water that was on the floor while shopping at Fiesta Mart and suffered serious injuries.

Invonne Hernandez filed a complaint April 27 in Harris County District Court against Fiesta Mart LLC alleging premises liability.

Hernandez alleges in her complaint that while at the Fiesta Mart on May 31, 2019, she slipped and fell on water that was on the floor near the fruit aisle. She claims she fell backwards and landed on her buttocks and back.

Hernandez further claims that as a result of the fall, she suffered "serious" injuries and "had to seek the care of medical professionals." She alleges Fiesta Mart's negligence in failing to monitor the condition of the floor and to properly clean the floor.

She also alleges Fiesta Mart was negligent in failing to properly train its employees or to warn of the hazard and should have known of the risk of the "unreasonable dangerous condition."

Hernandez seeks monetary relief of less than $75,000, interest and all other just relief.

She is represented by Husein Hadi, Jamil Thomas, Carnegie Mims, III, Sedrick Stagg and Seve Thomas of The Hadi Law Firm PLLC in Houston.
