HOUSTON — A man is suing Seacor Marine and others after his son died while working aboard a vessel that capsized during hazardous weather conditions.

Gerald Krell, individually and as representative of the Estate of Jason Krell, deceased, filed a complaint May 3 in Harris County District Court against Seacor Marine LLC, Seacore Liftboats LLC and Talos Energy LLC alleging unseaworthiness and negligence.

According to Krell's complaint, his son Jason Krell lost his life while working as a crew member on the defendant's Seacor Power vessel on April 13, 2021, when the boat capsized in tropical storm-force winds after leaving Port Fourchon in Louisiana.

The plaintiff alleges the defendants put "money over safety and the lives of the men on board" the vessel by disregarding the "deteriorating weather" in the Gulf of Mexico at the time the boat left the port. The plaintiff further alleges the defendants failed to maintain the vessel and have an emergency rescue plan in place or have proper equipment and crew.

Krell seeks monetary relief of more than $25 million, interest and all other just relief. He is represented by Francis Spagnoletti, Marcus Spagnoletti and Eric Rhine of The Spagnoletti Law Firm in Houston.
