HOUSTON — Union Pacific Railroad is facing a negligence claim after one of its former locomotive engineers suffered a traumatic brain injury when two trains were assigned to the same track and collided.

Cedrick Boyd filed a complaint June 8 in Harris County District Court against Union Pacific Railroad alleging negligence.

Boyd was employed by Union Pacific and was working as a locomotive engineer at the Davidson Yard in Fort Worth on March 2, 2021, according to his complaint. He alleges that he was directed by the yard master to pull "a cut of cars out of the bowl" and also directed another train into the bowl on the same track which caused a collision.

Boyd claims that on impact, he was thrown into the wall, knocked unconscious and suffered serious injuries to his ankle, knee, back, hand and suffered a traumatic brain injury. He alleges the defendant was negligent in failing to provide him with a safe work environment and was negligent for assigning two trains to the same bowl track.

Boyd seeks monetary relief of more than $1 million, interest, trial by jury and all other just relief. He is represented by Robert Tramuto of Jones Granger in Houston.
