Apartment dumpster fire destroys ambulances, medical equipment, lawsuit claims

HOUSTON — An ambulance company claims it has lost more than $200,000 after a dumpster fire from a nearby apartment complex destroyed two of their ambulances and medical equipment. 

AM/PM EMS Inc., filed. a complaint June 7 in Harris County District Court against Indus Properties LLC and HP Apartments LP alleging negligence. 

According to the plaintiff's complaint, two of their ambulances were parked at a parking lot adjacent to the defendants' Villa Barcelona apartment complex on April 6, 2021. They allege a dumpster fire at the apartment complex spread to their ambulances and destroyed the vehicles as well as the medical supplies inside the ambulances. 

They allege the defendants failed to properly maintain their property and dumpsters which caused them to lose the ambulances which are valued at $20,000 each. The plaintiffs further allege they lost $2,000 worth of medical supplies, $4,000 in AED equipment and $24,000 for the loss of electrical stretchers. They also claim they have suffered the loss of $9,300 per day in income.

The plaintiffs seek monetary relief of $250,000 or less, interest and all other just relief. They are represented by J.A. Asafi of The Asafi Law Firm in Houston.
