HOUSTON — A woman claims her mother suffered multiple pressure sores and falls while under the care of a nursing and rehab facility in Katy.
Lachounda Johnson, as next of kin of Frankie Johnson filed a complaint July 13 in Harris County District Court against Diversicare Katy LLC doing business as Oakmont Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center of Katy LLC, Diversicare Management Services Co., and Diversicare Texas I LLC alleging negligence and vicarious liability.
The plaintiff's mother, Frankie Johnson, was a resident at Oakmont from November of 2019 through July of 2020, according to the complaint. The plaintiff alleges that during her time as a resident at Oakmont, her mother received negligent care.
Specifically, the plaintiff claims her mother suffered from several "preventable falls" and required a wheelchair and that some of those falls resulted in hospitalization. The plaintiff further claims her mother suffered from several state IV pressure sores on her heel, lower back and sacrum while under the care of Oakmont and passed away on Aug. 27, 2020. She alleges the defendants failed to implement "adequate interventions" to prevent her mother's pressure sores and promote wound healing or to prevent her mother's various falls.
Johnson seeks monetary relief between $200,000 and $1 million, interest, trial by jury and all other just relief. She is represented by Jeffrey Bell II of Stephens Reed & Armstrong PLLC in Houston.
