HOUSTON — A former CVS worker claims he developed Post Traumatic Stress Disorder after working at a "high robbery" store where no security was provided for employees.

Devonte Hughes filed a complaint July 12 in Harris County District Court against CVS Pharmacy Inc., doing business as CVS Pharmacy #06726, Meadowlake Investment 3 PL and Meadowlake Delaware Company GP # LLC alleging negligence.

Hughes began working at the CVS store on Katy Freeway in Houston in 2019. He claims he was scheduled to work the "night shift" because he was told the store needed "strong people to work overnight" and that on May 6, 2019, two masked gunmen jumped over the counter and demanded money and all of his personal belongings including his phone and wallet.

Hughes claims the store was robbed again in July of 2019, and that he returned from his lunch break to find his co-worker had been pistol whipped by the robbers. He further claims that even after resigning from the CVS store location, he suffers from anxiety and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

Hughes alleges CVS failed to have sufficient security at its store or provide bullet resistant windows, wall panels or talk throughs to protect employees despite CVS knowing the store was in a location known to be at high risk for robberies.

Hughes seeks monetary relief of more than $500,000, interest, trial by jury and all other just relief. He is represented by Andrew Cobos and Nicholas Kacal of The Cobos Law Firm in Houston.
