HOUSTON — A Houston business is facing a suit after a woman tripped on a uncapped hole in their unlit parking lot, fell onto a rusty, sharp wire fence and suffered severe lacerations.

Kayla Reardon filed a complaint July 19 in Harris County District Court against Tu Casa Realty Inc., doing business as VAP Enterprises Inc., alleging negligence.

Reardon alleges in her complaint that she was at the defendant's property in Houston on Nov. 12, 2020. She claims as she walked through the parking lot, her heel became caught on an "uncapped hole" and caused her to fall on a "strand of coiled, rusty-sharp concertina wire."

Reardon alleges she suffered lacerations "so deep they had to be yanked" out and received 14 stitches while being treated in the emergency room. She also alleges the defendant's parking lot was "pitch-black" and that they failed to cap the holes in their parking lot. Reardon claims the defendants are also negligent for stringing the dangerous razor-sharp wire across the unlit parking lot and failed to warn of the hazard.

Reardon seeks monetary relief between $250,000 and $1 million, interest, trial by jury and all other just relief. She is represented by John Clark of The John Clark Law Firm in Houston.
