HOUSTON — A Lubbock dental office is facing a claim it failed to properly insert a patient's implant which caused her to undergo further surgical procedures.

Rene Munoz filed a complaint July 23 in Harris County District Court against Daniel Chaparro, III, D.D.S., and Terri Alani, D.D.S., alleging negligence.

Munoz underwent an implant procedure on her tooth on June 15, 2020, which was performed by Chaparro, according to her suit. She alleges that Chaparro inserted the implant horizontally across her gum rather than vertically and failed to do a bone graft before inserting the implant.

Munoz claims as a result of the Chaparro's negligent placing of the implant in the nasopalatine canal, she has suffered "extensive" injuries and has required further surgical procedures. She further claims Alani was negligent for failing to have appropriate polices and procedures for proper implant placement and for failing to enforce procedures and polices for dental implants.

Munoz seeks monetary relief between $200,000 and $1 million, interest, trial by jury and all other just relief. She is represented by Mark Weycer and Elena Bueno of The Weycer Law Firm PC in Bellaire.
