HOUSTON — A Houston dental practice and one of its dentists is facing a negligence claim from a patient who alleges he was denied antibiotics and developed an infection and abscess after a tooth extraction.

Abraham Francis Placencia filed a complaint Aug. 6 in Harris County District Court against Dalila x. Valdez-Gonzalez, D.D.S., and Apple Dentists PLLC alleging negligence.

Placencia underwent a tooth extraction performed at Apple Dentists on May 6, 2020, according to his complaint. He alleges that Valdez-Gonzalez failed to prescribe him antibiotics to prevent an infection and that after the procedure, he  experienced "intense pain and severe swelling," however he was refused an antibiotic prescription.

Placencia claims he developed an infection and abscess around the extraction site which caused him to require "multiple" ER visits and surgical intervention.

He further claims Valdez-Gonzalez was negligent for failing to prescribe an antibiotic and failing to timely refer him to a maxillofacial surgeon. Placencia also claims Apple Dentists' negligence for failing to have appropriate polices and procedures for tooth extractions.

Placencia seeks monetary relief between $250,000 to $1 million, interest, trial by jury and all other just relief. He is represented by Mark Weycer and Elena Bueno of The Weycer Law Firm PC in Bellaire.
