HOUSTON — A woman alleges the staff of a nursing and rehab facility allowed her mother to become dehydrated, malnourished and that they strapped her to a wheelchair and left in her in a corner hallway.
Wanda Rodriguez, individually and as representative of the Estate of Lucy Rodriguez, deceased filed a complaint Aug. 6 in Harris County District Court against Pinnancle Health Facilities XV, LP doing business as Woodridge Nursing and Rehabilitation, Arden Wood doing business as Woodridge Nursing and Rehabilitation, Altamonte Care of Houston Northwest doing business as Woodridge Nursing and Rehabilitation alleging negligence and other claims.
Rodriguez went to visit her mother Lucy Rodriguez who was a resident at Woodridge on July 23, 2019, according to her complaint. She alleges that she found her mother malnourished, dehydrated and that the defendant's employees had her "strapped to a wheelchair and choking in the corner of a hallway."
Rodriguez claims her mother had to be resuscitated with CPR and transferred to a hospital where she was found to be "severely" dehydrated and septic. She further claims her mother had not been "bathed in days" and lost 30 pounds in one month while living at Woodridge. Rodriguez alleges the defendants failed to have adequate policies for patient safety, failed to provide her mother with supplement fluids and nutrients and did not have an adequate number of staff or proper training and supervision for that staff.
Rodriguez seeks monetary relief of more than $1 million, interest and all other just relief. She is represented by James Lamey and M. Paul Skrabanek of Pierce Skrabanek PLLC in Houston.
